However, the overall record for the highest opening partnership aggregate in a two-Test series still belongs to Graeme Smith and Neil McKenzie, who amassed an incredible 479 runs during the series against Bangladesh back in 2008. Their legendary opening stand of 415 runs remains the highest ever in Test cricket.
Reflecting on Indian cricket history, the highest opening partnership aggregate for a series is credited to the iconic duo of Sunil Gavaskar and Chetan Chauhan, who amassed a formidable 537 runs against Australia in the 1979-80 series. They are closely followed by Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, who accumulated 477 runs during the series against Pakistan in 2005.
Rohit and Jaiswal's outstanding performance in the second innings also saw them achieve the second-highest run-rate for an opening pair in a partnership of at least 50 runs. They managed an impressive run-rate of 8.28, second only to England's Marcus Trescothick and Michael Vaughan, who achieved a phenomenal run-rate of 10 against Sri Lanka in 2002.
