Triumph Speed 400 launched in India today: Key highlights

Triumph Motorcycles has recently unveiled two new bikes, the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X, in India. The introductory price for the Speed 400 is set at 2.23 lakh (ex-showroom), but after the first 10,000 units are sold, the price will increase to 2.33 lakh (ex-showroom). Interested buyers can already place online bookings for both the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X, with an initial amount of T2,000. These motorcycles will be manufactured locally at Bajaj Auto's facility, and deliveries are expected to commence in the coming weeks.

The Speed 400 is equipped with a new TR-series engine. This fuel-injected, liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine boasts a cubic capacity of 398.15 cc. It delivers a power output of 39.5 bhp at 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 37.5 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox featuring a slip-and-assist clutch. With an estimated fuel efficiency of approximately 28 kmpl, the Speed 400 promises an efficient ride.

In terms of features, the Speed 400 offers an analogue speedometer accompanied by a digital screen that can display various information. The motorcycle includes switchable traction control, all-LED lighting, an immobilizer, and a ride-by-wire throttle system. Triumph has incorporated a new perimeter frame with a bolt-on sub-frame, providing stability and durability. The suspension setup consists of 43 mm upside-down Big Piston forks at the front and a gas-charged monoshock at the rear with pre-load adjustment. The braking system comprises a 300 mm disc at the front and a 230 mm disc at the rear.
